Affordable Healthcare is a cornerstone of a healthy and prosperous working class. Rural communities like the one I seek to represent rely on federal and state subsidies to keep hospitals and doctor offices running. I plan to claw back all of the resources lost under the Trump Administration, return services to communities which lose them, and push for Prescription Drug Price Caps, Medical Pricing Transparency, and Insurance Reform. The student debt crisis is crushing the working class. The promise of an education that pays is no longer a promise that our country can keep. The value of an education has hit an all-time low at a time when the cost has hit an all-time high. I make more as a non-college educated professional, than many of my college educated peers. While we watch a generation struggle to pay back loans, we also wonder why that generation is not starting families, investing in their community, or building futures. Our nation is decades behind when it comes to meaningful legislation for the digital space we reside in. Our kids are growing up in an almost unbelievably digital world, many of them will have their first friendships forged on a screen, and not a playground. Why then are we content to allow that digital space to continue to be a wild west, where our consumer data, privacy, and network security are all at the whim of companies we barely trust. With 1,000 fires to put out it may seem like I am unfocused on the very real, and very painful social issues that impact our communities. Everything from the inequitable nature of the Justice System, to the constant attacks on the LGBTQ community. Let me be clear, I am not unfocused, I am more focused than ever, and know that the first step to putting out these fires is to fix the hose. That is why the top issue on this page is about returning power to the people, because I am confident when that happens we can more easily address so much more. I believe that like a home, the government has to balance spending with earning to not add to our ballooning deficit. The Republican party has spent decades claiming to be the party of fiscal responsibility, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.
