As a member of congress I would not support the President’s unsanctioned use of military force on Venezuelan ships. Our country has a robust Coast Guard who is exceptionally well trained in interception, and by no means should we risk the potential loss of innocent life by allowing the President to unilaterally wage war on Venezeulan cartels.
It is not lost on me that this playbook looks eerily similar to the one used in advance of the invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan; and the justifications are equally as shaky. We must not allow another generation to be lost to a forever war in a foreign land so that the wealthy and elite can enrich themselves on foreign oil.
