Police Reform

from $0.00

Our police are overwhelmed with a role that more often than ever before expects them to be trained tacticians, counselors, arbitrators, traffic experts, and detectives. It is no wonder then that the stories of police deploying the wrong training at the wrong time, are becoming more numerous. Police after all are people. We need to boldly redefine what it means to be a police officer, what roles we want them to be focused on, and what roles we can transition to other public services. I would support federal funding for state and local governments to create “Peace Officers” separate from the police force, who would be trained in de-escalation, be equipped with mental health focused training, and act as first responders for domestic cases and public disturbances. Keeping our police focused on criminal offenses, and traffic violations.
