I support full federal legalization of marijuana. Having grown up in communities plagued by drug and alcohol abuse, creating the social need to buy marijuana, a generally safe* naturally occurring plant, from the same drug dealers who sell fentanyl and methamphetamines creates the very “gateway drug” behavior that is used to argue against marijuana legalization.
Not only does the federal government need to decriminalize marijuana use, possession, and growth; but they need to establish federal minimum standards for recreational marijuana to ensure that dispensaries are providing a safe and clean product to consumers.
*Safe is relative to other “Narcotics” research is still divisive on the long-term effects of prolonged marijuana use, and any substance consumed or ingested in excess can and likely will have adverse health impacts.
