Addiction
As the son of an addict, I know all too well the impact that addiction has on families. Drugs, and alcohol, only create victims, as the user is a victim of the addiction, and their loved ones become a victim of the stress, loss, and grief. I believe we need to tackle drug addiction at the source, by investing in Mental Healthcare (See Mental Healthcare Reform for more details.); but we also need to stop treating addiction as a crime, because that system only serves to perpetuate addiction by creating a constant state of helplessness that drives addicts to seek comfort and escape in their high.
